More than 30 years of
musical evolution incorporating an eclectic blend of
influences have produced the
precision
and warmth
that Tom's guitar and vocal style now exudes.
Kathleen Ausley joined forces with Tom in 1999. With seven
years of formal vocal training, experience as a touring
soloist in choral and large musical productions, and a love
for the “classics”, Kathleen has proven to be an excellent
musical partner for Tom. Much inspired by great vocalists
like Bonnie Raitt, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, Ms.
Ausley’s pure, alluring, alto voice is attracting a great
deal of well-deserved attention in the Charlotte area.
Perhaps the editors of “Charlotte’s
Best” magazine summed it up most eloquently when
Tom was voted “Best Local Acoustic” musician in
July, 1994… “Tom Billotto plays
brilliant guitar and his mellow voice caresses many a
song with sweet notes…”
Tom’s
sound is often described as “classy”…”tasteful”,
and certainly his extensive musical training
and influences are at the heart of these descriptions. His
adept
finger-style guitar
technique, which supplies melody, rhythm and bass
simultaneously, took flight during formal music studies in
college, culminating in a degree in Classical Guitar.
Further influenced by the genius of Chet Atkins and countless
jazz virtuosi,
and with vocal idols such as James Taylor, Kenny Rankin,
Frank Sinatra
and Ella
Fitzgerald,
it’s no wonder audiences and fellow performers have
described Tom as a
“musicians’
musician”.
